As I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts, flowers are my favorite way to accent a home. Well, when accenting a home with flowers, I like to be creative and vary the vase designs that my flowers are held within. I enjoy creating my vases and have learned a fun technique for creating a great looking vase out of a 2 liter soda bottle. I love these vases, because I have kids running around and things made of crystal tend to get broke. Also, I am a fan of recycling, so when I am bored with the vase, I simply throw it in my recycle bin and I’m good to go. Here are the steps for creating your own flower vase from a soda bottle.
1. Clean out the soda bottle using hot soapy water. You want to be sure to let it soak for a long time because there is nothing worse than the smell of flat soda lurking in the air.
2. Use sharp scissors to create a smooth cut about 2 inches from the top of the bottle. You can mark the bottle with a marker if you have a hard time staying on a straight line.
3. Make straight, evenly spaced cuts down 4 inches of the plastic bottle.
4. Carefully fold each of the plastic lines outward, creating a level edge around the bottle.
5. Take one plastic strip and weave it between the next 2 plastic strips. Continue around the bottle until all of the strips are weaved together.
6. Add colorful rocks or stones to the vase to give it weight and add color.
7. Refer to the picture included on this post to ensure your vase is correctly woven.
